An Appraisal Fair to Remember!
Treasures
From the Attic is an appraisal fair program developed by Accredited Antiques
Appraiser, Shirley Baumann of Heirloom Appraisal & Estate Services.
Shirley and her associates tailor the program to your organizations’ needs
depending on the size of the event and your goals. They have conducted dozens
of these events and are sure to make yours an appraisal fair to remember!
What is an appraisal fair?
An appraisal fair is an event in which people bring their antiques and collectibles and get a verbal approximation of value from antiques experts. It’s patterned after the popular PBS television show “Antiques Roadshow.”
Why host an appraisal fair?
It can be an exciting event that draws generations
together. Seniors bring things they have grown up with, and younger
generations bring things that were handed down from parents, grandparents,
great grandparents or others. It can generate enthusiasm and publicity for
your organization, and it can even be a fundraiser.
Who can host an appraisal fair?
Almost any organization can host an appraisal fair.
Some organizations that have been successful at hosting appraisal fairs
include historical societies, arts councils, museums, colleges, antiques
shops, public libraries, public television stations, church groups, senior
centers, nursing homes and others.
What do we have to do?
All you really need to do is provide space for people to
gather, put up some tables and chairs, secure the antiques expert/s, and
publicize the event. If you want this to be a fundraiser you can sell tickets
and food during the event.
Where do we start?
Contact Shirley Baumann of Heirloom Appraisal and Estate
Services to schedule your event. When you hire Shirley you not only get
antiques expertise, you get an experienced consultant who can help you through
the planning and organization of your event.
What are Shirley Baumann’s qualifications?
Shirley is an accredited member of the International
Society of Appraisers and a member of the Certified Appraisers Guild of
America. She has been an appraiser for 7 years and antiques dealer for 13
years. She is also a Registered Wisconsin Auctioneer and carries the
designation Certified Estate Specialist from the National Auctioneers
Association.
What other programs are available?
Passing on Personal Property – or Who Gets Grandpa’s
Rocking Chair? is a program
that stands alone or can be paired with an appraisal fair. It tells families
how to start discussions about passing down the special things that families
collect which have emotional consequences. The ins and outs of various ways
families handle this delicate matter are discussed. Shirley’s experiences
with many families in this situation offer numerous examples of what worked
and didn’t for other families.
